Meet the Artist: Mary Simmons

Tour Director and longtime CAA volunteer, Mary Simmons, is a well-regarded glass artist and is eager to not just return to the Tour but share her new glass studio and gallery with visitors.

Having purchased the location just before COVID-19 in 2020, Mary and her husband Doug have been hard at work building out the studio and gallery. The 1,800 square feet of design space will provide visitors a new opportunity to explore Mary’s diverse glasswork — from the lighting she is well-known for to other experimental glasswork.

In addition to working on the new gallery and studio, the past year has provided Mary an opportunity to explore different areas of glass art that she’s wanted to dive into following her experiences with the Pilchuck Glass School.

“I’ve been able to explore things with kelp and now casting which I haven’t always had time to do,” Mary said. “I’m also looking forward to coming up with some hands-on experiences for visitors who come to my new studio. Getting to experience creating art while engaging with is a great opportunity for people to connect.”
