Meet the Artist: John Hadley
While this is John’s first time on the Studio Tour, he has been actively involved with the Camano Arts Association (CAA) for several years. Serving most recently as a member of the board of directors, John is excited about joining the tour this year and connecting with visitors and art collectors.
Like many artists on Camano Island, John was an avid artist in his youth, taking a number of art classes in architectural school at Dartmouth. While he enjoyed a creative career as an architect, it wasn’t until relatively recently that he reconnected to his first passion of oil painting after stumbling upon a piece he made when he was 12 years old. Intrigued by it, he began taking lessons from local artist, Diane Shine, and began to explore the many aspects of mixing colors in both oils and acrylics.
“I enjoy formulating an idea in my mind and letting it simmer for hours, days or even weeks before I jump into it. And then I just work. Even at 82 years old, I can often find myself lost in the art working through the night until 3 or 4 in the morning.”
John enjoys being a part of the art community on Camano Island and thinks that it lends itself to more thought-provoking engagements with people in a time when so much in the world can feel confrontational.
He is looking forward to his first time on the tour and the opportunity to share his art with others and explore the freedom of expression with those who share his passion for art.
